Well the 2016 winter season has begun… The first trip was in March and we’ve just completed the April trip.
Catches for March were reasonable with each boat bringing in 6 tonne. April was a great trip with 18 tonne caught by each boat. Size was mixed with the predominate sizes being 16/20 and 10/15 count per pound.
The Spencer Gulf Fishery’s Management Plan will generally dictate the size of prawns harvested. This is all achieved by the implementation of 3 Major Stock Assessment Surveys of the Spencer Gulf. After the completion of each survey a harvesting strategy is implemented and strictly adhered to.
